1: Set up and Fund Polkadot.js with KSM

1. Import Kusama Stash to the Polkadot UI

  1. Install the Polkadot.js extension.

  2. Click the extension icon in your browser.

  3. Click + to add an account.

  4. Copy the provided mnemonic seed.

The current version of the Polkadot.js extension requires you to first create an account before you can import your own stash account. You may delete this account after you have imported your stash.

  1. Enter a name for your account.

  2. Enter a password.

  3. Verify the password.

  4. Click Add the account with the generated seed.

  5. Click + in the top right corner.

  6. Click Import account from have a pre-existing seed, import the account.

  7. Enter the your mnemonic seed for your stash account.

  8. Name the account.

  9. Create a password & verify.

  10. Click Add the account with the supplied seed.

Ensure that you store your mnemonic seed phrase somewhere safe where it cannot be lost or compromised. Your mnemonic seed phrase is the master key to your wallet; loss or compromise of your mnemonic seed phrase phrase may result in permanent loss of your KSM.

2. Import or Create your Controller

You can use your stash as your controller, however, for security reasons, the Edgeware team recommends you create a separate controller address.

If you are importing an existing controller account, repeat Step 1. above using your controller mnemonic.

  1. Open the Polkadot.js extension.

  2. Click +.

  3. Click Create New Account.

  4. Enter the password for your stash account.

  5. Click _Create derived account.

  6. Name the controller account_.

  7. Create a password & verify.

  8. Click Create derived account.

  9. Save your mnemonic seed phrase in a safe place .

3. Transfer KSM to your Controller to pay for your Transaction Fees

If your controller account already has 5-10 KSM in it, skip to the next step.

  1. Go to the Polkadot UI.

  2. Click TRANSFER under ACCOUNTS in the top navigation.

  3. Select your stash as the send from account.

  4. Select your controller as the send to address.

  5. Enter the amount of KSM you want to transfer to your controller.

caution

You will need 1 KSM for your “existential deposit” (the minimum balance the network requires to keep your account open) and 5-10 KSM to cover transaction fees.

  1. Click Make Transfer.

  2. Click Sign and Submit.

  3. Enter your stash password in the pop up window.

  4. Click _Sign the transaction.
