1: Set up and Fund The Provenance Blockchain Wallet

Removing Provenance Protocol

On Friday, May 19, 2023, we are sunsetting our public validators for Provenance.

If you are a delegator, we strongly recommend unbonding before this date. Refer to the Provenance Delegation Guide for protocol-specific unbonding periods. This change does not impact any other validator nodes for staking.

1. Set up your Provenance Blockchain wallet

  1. Ensure you are using an updated web browser with a password manager enabled
caution

The Provenance Blockchain requires that you store your encrypted private key in a browser password manager, so you must have this enabled when creating a Provenance wallet.

  1. Navigate to https://wallet.provenance.io/ and select Connect.

  2. At the bottom of the pop-up window, select Create new wallet.

  3. Select Generate seed phrase and click Continue.

  4. A new window will show your 24 word seed phrase. Write down your seed phrase and save it somewhere safe. You will need to verify a portion of your seed phrase to finalize the creation of your wallet.

caution

Ensure that you store your mnemonic seed phrase somewhere safe where it cannot be lost or compromised. Your mnemonic seed phrase is the master key to your wallet; loss or compromise of your mnemonic seed phrase may result in permanent loss of your HASH.

  1. Once you have copied your seed phrase, select Continue at the bottom of the window.

  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to verify a portion of your seed phrase in order to continue.

  3. In the Wallet name field enter the name you want to use to identify your encrypted private key within your password manager.

  4. Create a secure password, which will be used to encrypt your private key before it is stored within your password manager.

  5. Select Continue.

  6. On the SAVE TO KEYCHAIN page that appears, select the Copy icon to the right above to your encrypted private key.

  7. Paste your encrypted private key in the Password field.

  8. Select Continue.

caution

You should be prompted by the browser to save your credentials. Accept the prompt and select Save. If a prompt does not appear, click the Key icon on the top right of your browser window and follow the password manager's prompts to save the field as a password.

info

Future staking actions require using the information saved in the password manager to access your wallet via a Provenance login window.

If you encounter errors related to your password manager not functioning as expected, you can go back to the beginning of these steps and select Create new wallet on the login page, followed by Create from existing seed phrase, which will allow you to use your 24 word seed phrase to access your wallet again and set a new password.
